Ukrainian-born Germnan pianist Olena Kushpler has been fascinated by the music of Leoš Janáček ever since her youth. First by his vocal works, only then discovering his incredible piano repertoire later in her life. When she heard this music, she immediately grasped the great Czech composer’s basic aesthetic principle: he wanted to write a music of truth. Virtuosity for virtuosity’s sake had no place in his approach. This album includes some of the composer’s most celebrated works for solo piano, including the beautiful miniatures of from the collection On an Overgrown Path.
