Laurel Halo’s new cut provides a meditative and cinematic listening experience: Inspired by her recent work with Dutch design studio Metahaven – for which she scored the film ‘Possessed‘, ‘Raw Silk Uncut Wood‘ also draws its roots from the work of late writer and poet Ursula K. Le Guin, with the record title directly referencing her translation of millennial old Chinese text Tao Te Ching and this particular quote: “What works reliably is to know the raw silk, hold the uncut wood. Need little. Want less. Forget the rules. Be untroubled.”

Featuring Oliver Coates on cello (also present on the soundtrack of ‘Possessed‘ and 2014 feature ‘Under The Skin‘) and New York-based composer Eli Keszler on percussion, ‘Raw Silk Uncut Wood‘ is Halo’s first material to come out in 2018 after her acclaimed album ‘Dust‘, released last year on Hyperdub. In the label’s words, the record presents “six instrumental pieces that form a meditative, cinematic listening experience“, offering a “plurality of melancholy and happiness“.
