“En anglais” is a studio album of the French popular singer Françoise Hardy. Original album released in United Kingdom in October 1968. The album features English covers of Rock, Folk, and Pop tunes on this rather heavily orchestrated album, which may be Hardy’s most original ’60s recording.
The renditions of Tim Hardin’s “Hang on to a Dream” and Phil Ochs’ “There But For Fortune” aren’t bad, but the torpid interpretations of “Will You Love Me Tomorrow,” “Let It Be Me,” “That’ll Be the Day,” and Elvis Presley’s “Loving You” really lay on the schmaltz. In both arrangement and material (there are no Hardy originals), there is little of what made the singer special here. Incidentally, one of the better tracks, the Europop-flavored “Empty Sunday,” was reworked in part from a tune recorded earlier on a solo single by Yardbirds singer Keith Relf (“Shapes in My Mind”).
