That sound! This is what a power guitar sounds like when a master plays it. According to tube amplifier. Like steel strings that leave deep imprints in your fingers when you play them quickly. They give you goosebumps when you listen to the sounds. Axel Fischbacher is a virtuoso, without a doubt. And the album Bebop Sketches, which the jazz guitarist recorded with his trio – Nico Brandenburg on double bass and Tim Dudek on drums – is my recommendation for cold autumn and winter days in musical and high-end terms.Ultracool jazz can be so heartwarming. As he writes in the lovingly written and equally designed booklet of the album, Fischbacher has recorded seven of those jazz standards for eternity, “which have been my companions since the beginning of my musical life”. A little over 45 years ago (Bebop Sketches was recorded in 2020), the then 18-year–old Fischbacher was on the road as a rock guitarist – and still couldn’t get around classics of jazz literature such as “Autumn Leaves”, “Blue in Green” or “Days of Wine and Roses”. Because this was the soundtrack of the post-war years and even for the writer of these lines, born in 1966, still embodied the jazz musical mother’s milk.
