Hannah Walker and Jamie Elliott, better known as Vancouver based Indie-Folk duo Twin Bandit, return with their sophomore album “Full Circle”. Inspired by day-to-day experiences reflecting on death, mental health and good ol’ fashioned heartache, this is a deeply personal album which aims to inspire those who hear it.
Twin Bandit have garnered over 10 million streams worldwide, becoming perennials at Spotify playlists such as Acoustic Covers, Acoustic Spring, The Pulse of Americana, Happy Folk and more. Their debut album For You received critical acclaim at press, from outlets such as The Bluegrass Situation, Folk Alley, Exclaim!, The Province, Georgia Straight and more. Throughout 2016 the girls toured Europe and North America, headlining shows and festivals and sharing the stage with label-mates The Paper Kites and Joshua Hyslop.
Looking back, Hannah Walker and Jamie Elliott didn’t plan to make the record they ended up creating with Full Circle, the sophomore release from Twin Bandit. Sometimes, however, there are rewards to keeping an open mind. Reached in Winnipeg, the members of the country-tinged Vancouver folk duo acknowledge their initial goal was to make a stripped-raw album. What they delivered instead is a collection of songs illuminated with beautiful flourishes, including star-dusted pedal steel, down-home fiddle, and rollicking banjo.
Imagine two identically attired Emmylou Harris’ with beautiful individual voices, harmonizing so closely that you would struggle to squeeze a sheet of graphene between them, delivering achingly pretty, original songs of love, loss, heartbreak and the attendant universal emotions. That is pretty much in a nutshell what Walker and Elliott do, and while neither twins or related they certainly possess that unearthly, near-telepathic skill with vocal harmonies that is usually associated with siblings. Set against the sweetest, delicate, acoustic folk-pop melodies, it is a blissful sound.
