Ian Kelly is a busy musician, producer and creator: solo career; M.Chandler group training (with veterans Rick Haworth, Mario Légaré and Sylvain Clavette); instigator of the Morin-Heights SuperFolk Festival. With Long Story Short, his sixth album, he offers us an album entirely sung in English, where almost every piece has a melody likely to cling to us. There is nothing abrupt here. That sweetness interpreted with this beautiful voice and mastered. A dawn record. From those days when we still believe that anything can happen.
Even when the music starts a little more, as on the excellent last play Hopeful Mind, tranquility continues to live. These new Kelly songs seem built primarily around the singer’s voice. This one whispers, flies on some of the chorus to go down a little further and mixes marvelously with that of the Toronto singer Sarah Slean on Let’s Just Be Together. In any case, it keeps us weightless.
