In the early 1960s, Eric Andersen was part of the Greenwich Village folk scene in New York. His best-known songs from that time are “Violets of Dawn”, “Come to My Bedside”, and “Thirsty Boots” (the latter recorded by Judy Collins and Bob Dylan, among others). The folk singer/songwriter’s 1975 album for RCA features 10 tracks including the tender title track and the epic “Time Run Like A Freight Train”.

Andersen signed to Arista Records and in 1975 released Be True to You, which features rerecordings of six of the misplaced album’s songs, including the title track, “Moonchild River Song,” “Time Run Like a Freight Train,” and “Woman, She Was Gentle.” The arrangements are sometimes similar, while others are grander and reflective of the mid-’70s, though Andersen sings them with the same commitment and honesty. His cover of Tom Waits’ “Ol’ 55” sounds influenced by The Eagles’ version on their debut album.
