The Choir of Clare College, Cambridge launches its U.S. tour with director Graham Ross, performing a wide range of works from the 16th to 21st century. The Choir’s new Christmas release Lux de caelo (Light from Heaven) will be released on harmonia mundi, the third recording in Ross’s excellent series based on the major festivals in the Anglican calendar. The new release celebrates the legacy of European and English carols with works by Praetorius, Bach and Tavener, two world premieres by Graham Ross and two major Christmas works of the 20th century: Arnold Schoenberg’s extraordinary Friede auf Erden and Britten’s ever-popular A Ceremony of Carols.

Graham Ross’s Anglican calendar series first launched in December 2013 with Veni Emmanuel – Music for Advent, followed by Stabat Mater dolorosa – Music for Passiontide in March 2014. Each release in the series is a diverse collection of music that gives the listener context and appreciation for England’s chapel choir tradition. On Lux de caelo, The Choir is joined by The Dmitri Ensemble, who also appeared on the choir’s acclaimed collection of choral works by Imogen Holst.
